I was sent the standard DVD set instead of the bluray which was advertised.
I’d like to see the blu ray, but I’m a little unsure of ordering another on the off chance that I get the standard dvd again. Did anyone actually receive the bluray?

Remember the show In Search Of?
If you’re like me, you remember that in the beginning In Search Of was really cool and talked about really interesting stuff.
However, as the seasons went on, the creative team found that the well spring of creative ideas was running progressively drier and drier as they depleted it with each new episode.
In the same way, The Universe, having taken us to the beginning of time, the end of time and on a serviceable journey of the science in between these past three seasons has now been reduced to entries like the ten biggest explosions in space and ten ways to destroy Earth. It’s still interesting stuff. Indeed, with good science, I think it can only get so boring.
But still the same, it is surprising that the creative team made some of the choices it did this season. There are numerous really interesting ideas that remain out there such as:
1) The solopsist dilemna…which asserts that reality does not really exist and its only a manifestation of our minds. Since the birth of the quantum era, this dilemna has been trendy talk in modern physics. For his part, Albert Einstein was fascinated by it.
2) The latest at CERN where work remains underway to find the elusive Higgs boson. Unlike every other theorized subatomic particle the Higgs boson has NOT been found which is unfortunate because the Higgs may explain why matter has mass in the first place.
3) The Voyager problem…In the 1970s we sent a pair of deep space probes on a journey past the solar system. The data we’re still receiving from them says that they assuming a trejectory and speed much different than contemporary physics would suggest. And significantly these numbers may relate to the ongoing discussion about dark matter and dark energy.
4) The search for extra solar planets. More than perhaps any other area of discovery, our knowledge of extra solar planets is growing exponentially. As this knowledge grows we gain a deeper appreciation for the actual rarity of this planet. This knowledge, coupled with the ongoing debate about global warming would also make an excellent program.
Of course, the ideas I just mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg. The known Universe has existed for 13.7 billion years and spans some 97 billion light years. It’s just that you’d think in all that time and space, it might take them more than four seasons to run out of really great ideas for shows.

Paid $23, free shipping. Even better its blu ray, Hours of great viewing and great picture quality. When it comes to astronomy you either like it or “its dark out”. I will be watching this again soon. It should be a mandatory class in every school. Perfect for fifth graders, even younger if you can sit with then and explain a few things. Even though President Obama killed the space program and put an end to maned space flights and the next generation of space shuttles, at least the Russians and/or the Chinese, will land a man on Mars in the next twenty years. We can tell our children and grand children that we didn’t lose the space race, we just quit and gave away all the money, because we always win. Other countries don’t like that so if we don’t play we don’t have to win again and maybe these other countries will likes us again. President Obama always bows very low to the Chinese Leaders so may-be they will give one of our astronauts a ride to see Mars someday. Who knows may-be the Chinese might even buy NASA and then the peoples republic of NASA can plant the first flag on Mars. Right after writing this I started have problems with my amazon account, be careful what you post. That’s the same day I wrote this, my reply to a commit made about another review was edited out, first time ever, after years of purchases here. Draw your on conclusions.

This is quite a series with the most beautiful graphics and the best explanations that I have seen in quite some time as it explores the skies beyound our own.It also speculates rather well the dangers and the benefits of going out there and highlights much of what is being conjectured within the scientific communities. It is a great series for those with a definite interest in Astronomy. This is one series I hope to complete.

The Universe series is a terrific series and I’ve enjoyed them all. Outstanding graphics, photographed and computer generated; and wonderful specialists who speak on a variety of topics. Very high quality material and geared for those seeking general knowledge as well as those enthusiasts who really enjoy studying what makes our universe what it is.
