The General is an old classic movie. The quality of this transfer to Blue-Ray is first class. The movie was that much more viewable and enjoyable because of the transfer to Blue-Ray.

Find a review elsewhere if you want to know what it's about. It is a comedy classic that would put Jackie Chan to shame. THESE are stunts. And what I like is Kino used the best elements but resisted using digital stuff to make it perfect. It looks as great as it would have in 1926.

If you love film and have never seen a Buster Keaton movie or short you can't call yourself a lover of film. In the opinion of many "The General" might just be the greatest American film ever made. See it then try other Keaton films. This Blue Ray presentation is beautiful, the best restoration I have seen to date.

A note on 'gray market' DVDs:
Often, transfers are not of the highest quality. The movies themselves are unrestored and rarely pristine (but still watchable), extras are non-existent and inclusion of artwork or liner notes varies by manufacturer. Claims like "Enhanced Edition" are nice selling points but their veracity is mighty hard to prove.

In THE GENERAL, Buster Keaton portrays a loyal Southerner during the Civil War who is also engineer of the entitled steam locomotive. When Union soldiers make off with his beloved engine, Keaton pursues them in a second and eventually manages to steal the General back.

The plot is a set-up for two superb train chase sequences that climax with one's plunge into a river after a wooden bridge the train is crossing collapses. Re-creation of Civil War uniforms and equipage is remarkably accurate, the Tennessee and Georgia scenery (which is really rural Oregon) looks perfect. Keaton's effortless and amazing stunt abilities make this a most unforgettable film-- a classic in every sense of the word and a must-see for all!

Also recommended:
For one low price, the BEST OF BUSTER KEATON (from Canadian outfit St. Clair) includes "The General," a handful of other Keaton sound features and several of his finest comedy shorts.

Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 imdb viewer poll rating.

(8.3) The General (silent-1926) - Buster Keaton/Marion Mack/Frederick Vroom/Joe Keaton/Glen Cavender (uncredited: Al St. John)

you should change your description of The General. Johnny Grey (buster) is NOT 'rejected as unfit' in this movie. They don't let him into the confederate army because they think he is more valuable to the South as an Engineer.

BIG difference. Don't bust on Buster.
