Always liked the Star Trek movies and seeing them again on BluRay is great. If you are a Trekkie you definitely want to see the movies on BluRay and will enjoy them all over again!

I'm a Sci Fi geek. I've seen nearly all of what Star Trek has to offer. Some of it great, and some of it is hard to watch. Star Trek: the Undiscovered Country is the best piece of ST story, even considering Wrath of Khan. This is of course my opinion, and I know lots of fans will disagree with me. But this movie (ST:tUC) is far more engrossing for me. The set up, the character interactions, and the wonderful commentaries that apply to normal life... I just got more out of this movie than I did any other star trek story. Though I will admit, I love Wrath of Khan, and there are a lot of next generation episodes that really make you think. I guess I'm trying to say that I don't make this review lightly. There's a lot of Star Trek I love. This one is just at the top of my list.

One last thing... even if you're not a fan of Sci Fi, and you don't know much about Star Trek, this movie may very likely be worth watching. The important stuff in the movie doesn't depend on the Sci Fi... it's just a vehicle for conveying the excellent story.

Reasons to run to the store:

1. beautifully remastered audio

2. ***** ORIGINAL THEATRICAL ASPECT RATIO RESTORED: 2.35:1 ***** I popped in both the original release and the 2-disc "director's cut" and we FINALLY have a proper aspect ratio!

3. This is likely the original theatrical cut. A big fan of this movie, I did see it three times in the theatre, and - as with "Generations" three years later, I noted a distinct absence of a few scenes. I noted a couple bits put back in (granted, I have not sat through the full movie for proper verification and I apologize for that), but I did compare a couple scenes - and Klingon dialogue is over the actual film rather than in the black bars.

The picture quality is overall excellent - though it's obvious over-use of edge enhancement technology was used (in certain scenes, the tell-tale halo exists.)

Not sure why the packaging has the USS Excelsior (and if you look at the text on the saucer, it's clearly been mirrored to achieve the angle the slop-artist, oops I mean "graphic designer", wanted... They could have hidden the registry a bit... Of course, they could have used the sodding ENTERPRISE instead of the Excelsior, sheesh! But that's nitpicking... and, sadly, not enough to detract from the rating given the strength of the positives.)

If you're a fan of The Original Series and their final theatrical offering, this is the one to get. Any other DVD bearing "Star Trek VI" on it is a cheat.

i purchased the Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection, which contains The Undiscovered Country as 1080p remastered. If "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Remastered) [Blu-ray]" is the same version, then I am all set. However if it's yet another remaster, then I am a bit upset. I can get a little compulsive with these things. I don't expect to make another purchase of this edition, since I have it in the collection. It's not clear if this is the same. As an example, TROK is now in Blu-Ray in three separate editions and I believe it is all the same restored version. I would understand if Paramount did the same for each film in the 7 disc collection to capture fans of each film. I just hope that I am done with this for now, at least until the Director's Cut is put to Blu-Ray.

Any feedback regarding this concern would be appreciated.

These movies were ok for star trek, but I prefer the next generation movies. Better special effects.
