Saved from the margin of termination by the constant fanbase, Star Trek‘s third and last deteriorate rewarded them with a array of noted episodes. Tight budgets and slipping beautiful control, however, done it the series’ many disproportionate season, yet it did have a little of the coolest part titles (“For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky,” “Is There in Truth No Beauty,” “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield”). Some of the most appropriate moments concerned a gunfight at the OK Corral (“Spectre of the Gun”), a knock-down drag-out long knife conflict with the Klingons aboard the Enterprise (“Day of the Dove”), the boat removing held in an ever-tightening spacial net (“The Tholian Web”), TV’s initial interracial lick (“Plato’s Stepchildren,” and it should be easy to theory who participated), Sulu receiving authority (“The Savage Curtain”), and Kirk’s switching bodies with an ex-love seductiveness (“Turnabout Intruder”).

The 2008 DVD set benefits from the same remastering since to the alternative dual seasons, yet usually the initial was expelled in high clarification (the now-defunct HD DVD format). Still, the episodes have been roughly spotless up to the point where they demeanour utterly good, rsther than than jarringly hairy to the complicated viewer. And there have been a little brand brand brand brand new visible goods which have been well-done, and overt usually to the strictest fans. Compare, for example, the thespian close-up of the green-glowing U.S.S. Defiant in “The Tholian Web” with the strange effect, which had the boat floating in a immature haze. New reward facilities have been eleven some-more mins of singular footage from additional Billy Blackburn; “Collectible Trek,” a 14-minute contention of singular Trek items, filmed in 2004 with the rest of the reward calm but not enclosed on the prior DVD set; and the newly filmed “Captain’s Log: Bob Justman,” an sexual nine-minute reverence to the array producer. Otherwise, the set retains roughly all the special facilities from the 2004 set, together with the facilities on Walter Koenig, George Takei, and James Doohan (who died the following year), and the dual versions of the array pilot, “The Cage,” a easy color chronicle and the original, never-aired chronicle which alternates in between color and black and white. Starring Jeffery Hunter as Captain Pike, Leonard Nimoy as a comparatively romantic Spock, and Majel Barrett (the destiny Nurse Chapel and Mrs. Gene Roddenberry) as a glacial Number One, this commander was rejected, but a second was commissioned, “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” right away deliberate the “official” commencement of the series. But “The Cage” is really recognizably Star Trek with the far-out concepts (telepathic aliens pciking up class samples), voluptuous humanoid women, impression development, and of march cheesy costumes and special effects. Footage was after reused in the deteriorate 1 two-parter, “The Menagerie.” –David Horiuchi

Star Trek is one of the biggest franchises ever. I first came across it with The Next Generation series. So, when the blu ray of the original came out, I jumped on it. The blu ray presentation–in terms of quality of image and sound–is unparalleled for any series of its time. I was blown away that a series this old could look and sound this good. Now the actual material was a little more uneven than I expected. Some of it is brilliant (Menagerie, Balance of Terror, Court Martial), some of its good, but there is some that is bad, really bad (The Man Trap, Miri, Shore Leave). I watched in utter disbelief as Sulu pranced around in one episode swinging a sword! Yes, there are number of these horrible moments. Of course, there are moments of brilliance and episodes where you see the future potential of the series. Menagerie Parts 1 & 2 is one of those. Jeffrey Hunter is brilliant and the story is one of the best of all Star Trek. BTW, Kirk and Spock are really, really good episode after episode. There are a number of good guest performances and even some surprising ones (like Joan Collins). Overall, it’s ok, but not the best.

  2. Finally they’ve released the 3rd season of yet another STANDARD DVD release.
As hardcore Star Trek fans buy up this release, you can bet Paramount have begun plans for the release of the Blu-ray version.

Knowing Paramount, there may be TWO Blu-ray releases:
    1. Blu-ray of the ENHANCED Star Trek…once everyone replaces the current release
    2. A Blu-ray version of the remastered ORIGINAL version (digitally cleaned up) for the Star Trek purists.

Of course, if Paramount was a “normal” company, they would release both on the same release — as a kind of a “bonus”…but we’re talkin’ about Paramount here. You know it won’t be reasonably priced so be prepared to be ripped off.
However, on the bright side they may actually ADD extras such as cast commentaries…they have to…. if they hold off any longer, most of the original cast will be dead.

I paid for the first version of this. Then they put the first season on HD DVD, now, instead of making blu-rays they put out the remastered complete version again for us to buy. Hoe many times do we need to buy this ??

    Also,
I wrote this before for this item and although it was within the posting guidelines, Amazon decided not to post the rating. I understand they make money selling these but I also come here because I trust the reviews. One cannot help but wonder: Is Amazon filtering the ratings they post ? Dissapointing ……

When reading the security label across the top of the Slim Line box. I noticed it
read “The (Best) of the original series (Vol).3″ The Best of, Vol. 3. I havent
purchased the set yet so I’m not sure. Is the the COMPLETE season 3. Don’t Like the
slim line box that doesnt match the first two sets at all. I’ll remember Paramount
how you cheapened things up at the end of this series when you market “THe Next Generation”
in Blu Ray and wait to buy the compete set or at least matching ones when you offer the last season.

  5. Many Are Saying to wait for Blue-Ray. But last Time I checked, It was still very expensive. I am glad they put it on Standard DVD. It is very enjoyable and affordable.
