  1. After it has become possible to enjoy Kirk and Spock in high definition, Picard and his crew are finally next – but unlike Kirk and Spock, Picard and crew will be limited for a long (if not life-) time, to the 4 TNG movies.
Because of the amount of remastering work necessary, current plans to release ST-TNG (the TV series) on Blu-ray feature the old, poor video transfers dating back to the late 80′s. In simpler language: less discs but light years away from true HD quality.

So, for what it is worth, the TNG movie collection may be literally the only way to watch adventures of Picard, Data, Riker, Troi and all the others in true, high definition picture quality – unless we all tell Viacom that we also want to see the TV series in HD, that we still care and cherish the TV series.
A rather small step for Viacom, but a giant leap to preserve one of the most iconic Science Fiction TV series and generate interest in ‘our’ next generation…

  2. This is a very great set, of course you get the remastered versions of the movies which are displayed much better than their DVD counterparts. The only thing this set lacks is the 7.1 surround sound that comes with the first 6 movies with Kirk and Spock.

I still give this set a 5 star rating but if I could 4 1/2 due to the lack of 7.1 surround sound. I still would like to know why an older movie set of the franchise can come in 7.1 surround sound but the last 4 movies of the franchise only 5.1. It baffles me but none the less a great collection piece at a great price. Thanks AMAZON!!

    Noted that:
TNG films are provided in 5.1 audio format, the TOS movie series on Blu Ray were done in 7.1

Not sure if it will make much of a difference.

  4. i am not sure why but i would have though it would be much easier to do a 7.1 mix on newer movies from 1994 to 2000 and beyond than movies dated from 1978 up till 1992 . well i belive its because of the lazy studies i mean come on . it may seem simple but if your gonna upgrade to blu ray then give us the full monty . and even with the original crew the first movie star trek sounded better thank the 2nd as each movie was watched the sound got worse and worse the first star trek sounds the best . this just dotn make sense the newer movies should sound better as they wear originaly mixed in 5.1 the older movies wear mixes in stnadered stereo so why is the older movies sound better than the newer ones makes no sense at all .

  5. R. Wolff says:

You know what I hate people that put reviews up even before the item is out and the prior review gave it 3 stars what are you smokin sir. This will be the best picture release of these films (until paramount re-releases again like they normally do).

    Generations:
-Good starting point the story is slow at times but it is worth it to see Kirk one final time in action.

    First Contact:
-Best of the 4 movies excellent story and fast paced action. If you love the borg you cannot miss this film.

    Insurrection:
-A lot of people hated this film I really liked it because it reminded me of Star Trek 4 in it had a lot of humor and didnt take itself too seriously. It is just a really long episode, but some funny parts in it.

    Nemesis:
-I really wanted to like this movie, the whole clone of Captain Picard is an awesome story that way more should have been done. There really isnt any suspense and John Myers is an excellent actor but I didnt like him as the villian. But having Ron Pearlman as his right hand and one of the female Rolumans played by the actor who was Dizzy in Starship Troopers are the bright points in the film.

    Bonus:
-I cannot wait to check out the disc the one in the Original bluray set the Captains Summitt was excellent and very informative.

If you are a Trek fan there is no doubt you need to pick these up. I will still keep my DVD discs anyways but this is going to be the best picture you will have for these movies so far. Also Amazons Preorder price is damn good.
