First, let me say that LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD is not only the worst film in the DIE HARD series, but one of the saddest, most desperate attempts to revive the popular franchise and make it "accessible" to today's younger audiences.

The story centers on a group of computer terrorists led by a very, very young and angry man who is also a former member of our governement. To prove a very radical point, he takes control of the United States by systematically shutting down our computer infrastructure. And of course, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, it's up to John McClane to save the day.

It seems that since the horrific events of September 11, 2001, we, as a country have learned nothing! Not only did we go to war with the wrong enemy, but Hollywood film makers continue to get their kicks by seeing how much they can destroy our cities and people on screen. In my opinion, a story about an American choosing to willfully cripple his own country in such a manner is nothing short of IRRESPONSIBLE! Our foreign enemies need only watch a movie like LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD to be further inspired on how to attack our country again!

I knew that I would not like this movie even before it started. I mean, really, how much can you expect from any Part IV sequel?? I never expected to walk away feeling angry, though.

This is a great movie, regardless of its PG-13 rating. If there are people out there considering not buying this BD because Fox isn't offering an unrated version, they need to grow up and move out of their parents' basement.

At every step, unless you are under the age of 12 and have no conception of anything, DH4 has a conceit that says "our audiences are so dumb, we can sell them anything." Attempting to play upon the non-technical majority in the seats, the viewer will be asked to buy into such stupidity as West Virgina becoming the nexus of the US power grid, or that natural gas can be directed like a detonation train through US pipelines. This would be more surprising if you didn't realize that this mess was directed by Len Wiseman, gaining a well deserved rep as the new Uwe Boll. Save your time and money, and skip this mess!

THIS HAS TO BE THE WORST OF THE DIE HARD SERIES. NO REAL ACTION AND IT WAS BORING.

Live Free or Die Hard
aka Die Hard 4
2007

This movie is simply the WORST of the series. I'll go one further, it should've never been made. His mighty Willisness baffles me as to why he took such a poor script.

Ah yes, the script - lets start there. Based on a book that focused on cyberterrorism isn't the ideal setting for John McClane. Oh ya, the book didn't even include Detective McClane. So, we have McClane being dropped into a pre-existing story and PRESTO - Die Hard movie! Thats strike one against this turkey.

Strike Two is that this dog has none of the charm, humility or tension of any of the Die Hard movies. Part of what we love about McClane is his good guy in whacked out scenarios. We can relate to him because he's a common "flatfoot" stuck in the insanity rising to do heroic things to beat the bad guys. Do we get that in this movie? Sort of, but not really. What we get is forced and doesn't work. There is little to no breathing room for McClane to be McClane. All the charm his character has shown over 3 films evaporates here.

Lastly, the storyline stinks. All the Die Hard movies bolt you in and take you for a wild ride. Yes, even Die Hard II with its hard to buy premise does this to. Die Hard IV just never quite connects to you and draws you in. That is a testament to the poor screenwriting and story pacing. It just doesn't work.

I know there is a lovefest in these reviews for this movie. I either think its the studio still puffing this dog up with its minions stuffing the reviews or its people thinking that its great because it has "Die Hard" in the title.

The facts: It doesn't stack up to ANY of the Die Hard films. Its a wooden clunky pre-written script that minimizes the humanity of John McClane and doesn't offer any of the thrills or connection to the audience of its predecessors.

Die Hard 2 is now no longer the worst Die Hard movie.
