Will Smith stars in the third instrumentation of Richard Matheson’s classical science-fiction novel about a sole tellurian survivor in a post-apocalyptic universe dominated by vampires. This brand brand new chronicle rather alters Matheson’s executive hook, i.e., the unusual thought which an typical man, Robert Neville, spends his days in motion a desolated city and his nights in a residence hermetic off from longtime neighbors who have turn bloodsucking fiends. In the brand brand new film, Smith’s Neville is a troops scientist charged with anticipating a heal for a pathogen which turns people in to crazed, hairless, flesh-eating zombies. Failing to finish his work in time–and after fast a personal tragedy–Neville finds himself alone in Manhattan, his healthy shield to the pathogen gripping him alive. With an fluent German shepherd his usually companion, Neville is a hunter-gatherer in sunlight, stealing from the mutants at night in his Washington Square locale residence and methodically conducting experiments in his constant query to knock out the disease.
The film’s initial half roughly suggests which I Am Legend could be one of the excellent movies of 2007. Director Francis Lawrence’s extraordinary, computer-generated images of a ebbing New York City exhibit weeds flourishing by the cracks of informed streets which have been additionally overshoot by deer and prowled by lions. It’s unfit not to be preoccupied by such a practically changed cityscape, reverting to a healthy environment, by which Smith moves with a weirdly enviable freedom, equivalent by his warning over whatever is sneaking in the dim of bank vaults and parking garages. Lawrence and screenwriters Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman wisely set up torment by self-denial images of the monsters until a rise stage of abhorrence well in to the story. It contingency be said, however, which the computer-enhanced creatures don’t demeanour half as engaging as they competence have had the filmmakers adhered some-more to Matheson’s vampire-nightmare vision. I Am Legend is in conclusion notable for Smith’s conspicuous opening as a male so waste he talks to mannequins in the shops he frequents. The film’s latter half goes as well far in portraying Smith’s Neville as a depressing male with a messianic mission, but this relapse in to bathos does zero to take divided from the visible and thespian accomplishments of the initial hour. –Tom Keogh

This review is NON-PC. So I’m going to talk about a different aspect of it (ie the Elephant in the room — the manipulative racial agenda of this film)
I only tuned in to this movie for about an hour on the TV, and its manipulative racial agenda made my jaw drop! I got hooked on it as Will Smith’s dog was chasing a deer and he was chasing his dog through a totally deserted, abandoned NYC. Then the dog ran into a dark building and the zombies started coming at him. It was very enjoyable at that point, and of course, incredibly surreal.
As the movie progressed, however, I noticed that all of the zombies (very scary BTW; extremely fast & aggressive) were, as I recall, very pale white zombie-men with skin heads. OK ….. Then a flashback to Smith’s family — his white wife and their child before the virus catastrophe exploded. Of course, in this day & age, all racial combinations of marriages are “OK”. THEN we get graphic images of the GOOD-GUY Smith shooting the pale, white skin-head guys and smashing them with cars. Then an evil white skin-head zombie is about to kill him, and he’s saved by another survivor …… you guessed it, another white woman! (Actually, she’s “hispanic…”, which according to the Census isn’t a race …. so we think what we are told) At this point, I tuned out because I had to go, but thinking about the race-baiting propaganda in this flick and how NO ONE ever talks about it. A black guy protecting the light-skinned women from the pale-white crazed zombie skin-head Anglos by killing them with extreme violence. QUESTION: do you think that the producers considered changing the “second survivor” character from a Latina woman to a White man, in order to defuse the incendiary racial tones in the movie? I bet that they considered it, but rejected it. They probably said something like “It’s only white men that are being dissed. Nobody will say anything about this because nobody cares about anti-white-male images or rhetoric.”
SO, do you think all the racial psychological imagery is coincidence (not a chance), or are you brainwashed into thinking that it doesn’t matter? If you think the latter, what would you say about a White protagonist, who formerly had a black wife, fighting & killing all of the crazed African-American zombies, and then was saved by another black woman? So if you think that THAT idea is racially insensitive, then why accept this blatant manipulation when the shoe is on the other foot?
Maybe we are all so intimidated by political-correctness (a form of mind control), that we say that black men/white women & vice versa doesn’t matter anymore? I say, okay, I’m willing to accept that. THEN, why are there so extremely few films with white men and black women? And why are there ZERO films with a black woman romantically involved with a white man, who is killing black men? Does this blatant double-standard exist for a similar reason that, for example, artists in America routinely insult whatever religion that they want, but won’t dare to touch Islam? I.e. political correctness seems to have an inherent double-standard, but if so, who makes up its rules? I would guess that the liberal Hollywood establishment makes up its rules. In this case, they obviously are cramming a racial agenda down the viewers throats and daring anyone to speak against it. So everyone is supposed to watch this remake with Will Smith the “anointed” black male that is the saintly hero, killing a bunch of white skinhead zombies, and never talk about the Elephant in the Room.
Sorry, I guess that I could not get past this manipulative, psychological racial agenda to enjoy the movie. I’m sure that there are brainwashed people out there who will knee-jerk call me racist for speaking about the Elephant in the room. Oh well, I at least got a few enjoyable moments of entertainment out of it before the twisted Hollywood agenda took over.

A movie this limp and nonessential gets THIS type of “star” treatment? You can stuff a huge box with as many discs and extras as you want but it doesn’t make the movie any better. I Am Legend is simply “meh” no matter what type of spiffy box art is designed for it. Definite PASS on this one.

** SPOILER AHEAD **
the guy is a brilliant scientist. the guy is strong. the guy is brave. the guy sacrifices himself. he is the best man on earth. no one else is as good as him. and yes, just before he died, he found the vaccine to cure the disease. what a coincidence.
and why did the lady have to dress sexy and wear makeup when mankind is near extinction and she was running for her life?
and why were there no corpses on the street?
the man is depicted as sacrificing and “self-less”, yet the movie’s title is an egoistic “I AM LEGEND”.
this is just a fake, made-up movie trying to make a man look like a god and a saint.

I have no idea what Blu-Ray is but it would not work on my player. When I tried to adjust my player I screwed things up badly. Be careful when you buy a DVD if you don’t have a Blu-Ray player or have no clue how to use it on your DVD player. It can cause you a lot of grief. Amazon should give a warning to those of us who are not up on the LATEST technology — which is hard for some of us busy working folk.

It’s a funny thing about `end of the world’ (EOW) stories, they usually read quite well, but rarely adapt well to cinema. I’ve always had a fascination with EOW, not that I’m morbid, I just believe it is an inevitable scenario. One day, humanity as we know it, will be drastically altered. Perhaps viral, or perhaps ecological. No, not global warming. I’m talking asteroids, here. At any rate, a thousand years from now, maybe even ten thousand years from now, or maybe even tomorrow, some catastrophic event will bring about the destruction of society and decimation of mankind.
As with virtually all EOW stories that evolve from print to film, I AM LEGEND, the movie, falls far short of the book. That’s NOT to say that the movie is not worth seeing, or even not enjoyable. It was actually quite enjoyable for me and maybe even one of the better EOW movies made to date. But….
There’s always a `but’ right? The movie falls short on several fronts. There is too much time spent on scenes which really fail to contribute much to the story, and not enough time spent explaining important details. There is a brief elusion to God and His plan for humanity, but that shred of promising storyline is short lived. I never like to give away too much in a review, so I’ll not go further into the story itself.
Now here’s what this movie does offer. Suspense, drama, fast cars, good verses evil, high tech weaponry, zombie-like humanoids and everything else one might expect. The filming is good, special effects are first rate. There really IS no casting here, it’s pretty much a Will Smith solo performance.
In the end, if I had it to do over, I wouldn’t spend $10 at the theater, but I would definitely pay a couple of bucks for a rental.
