Once dictated as a underline for Johnny Depp, the long-germinating underline movie instrumentation of Marvel Comics’ cult pretension Ghost Rider stars Nicolas Cage as motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who transforms in to a skull-faced angel of reprisal to conflict the forces of evil. Though maybe a bit as well grown up for the role, Cage brings a grade of amusement to the vast proceedings; he’s well suited by the Easy Rider himself Peter Fonda, amusingly expel as Mephistopheles, the devil with whom Blaze strikes a discount to save his father, and in turn, causes his mutation in to Ghost Rider. Wes Bentley is additionally excellent as Blackheart, the rebel brood of Mephistopheles, and Blazes’ arch competition in the film. They’re assimilated by a plain ancillary expel which includes Donal Logue, Eva Mendes, and Sam Elliott, but their appearance and a relentless fusillade of CGI goods can’t censor the actuality which the story itself, yet mostly true to the comic origins, is abundant with clichéd characterizations and dispirited B-movie dialogue. Fans of the princely pretension might cry tainted over this instrumentation (as they did over helmer Mark Steven Johnson’s prior comic-to-movie feature, Daredevil), but reduction difficult viewers might suffer the burning visuals and Cage’s typically quirky performance. –Paul Gaita

Pure example of poor casting. Cage has the same role/acting in every film, and this is no exception…yawn…

I cannot wait to LAUGH OUT LOUD at what looks to be the sappiest movie of the year.
Gone in 60 Seconds was a new low in acting and plot.
The scene where they got “pumped up” to steal cars by playing Lowrider on cassette tape made me embarassed to be a human being…in the most awesome way imaginable.
Now that they have foisted this turd on the unsuspecting American public I’m just wondering how many more classic scenes like that I’ll have to enjoy.
I’m guessing this will be one of the best comedies of the year.
So until then…I plan to ride hard and strong. May my receding hairline recede no more…as I blast into the night…tassles flappin in the wind.

I have never been a Nicholas Cage fan, but he stoops to new lows (even for him) on this abysmal comic book adaptation. The only reason I remember this movie from the theater is the point when he strips naked to reveal some killer abs, at which point everyone in the hall was really into the film for about two minutes.
This film has everything going for it – great special effects, a villain with real power and charisma (in fact, he was the star of the show, for me), and a gorgeous heroine who should have been given more screentime. Why they chose the old and out of talent Nicholas Cage to headline this otherwise stellar enterprise is beyond me. I mean, the man has nothing. Virtually nothing at all. There is no screen presence here, no memorable dialogue, and he really looks like one of those 50+ men who inject themselves with botox and believe that they look 25 again. Seriously, it IS that bad – I dare you to watch it and say anything remotely positive about his disgusting performance in this film.
Granted, a film of this sort is ludicrous, but when a TV show can get the premise better (“Supernatural” anyone?), its time to worry. I can say that the bike stunts were nice, and the ‘head’ effects were pretty stellar too. Its just that the romance is a bit convoluted even for a fantasy film of this sort, and lead actress Eva Mendes looks so detached and disinterested in her surroundings, its as if she belongs in some other film entirely. Now, this is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, but what happened to the hair and make-up here. Eva could have been presented so, so much better.
The climax was great though – I always enjoy the concept of good vs. evil, and the storyline of selling your soul to the devil. This film captures that, but when compared to other films of a somewhat similar genre (such as the far superior and almost classic “Constantine”), it falters quite a bit. For that reason, this remains a novelty piece with very little repeat value. Well, maybe you’ll watch it twice if you’re into bikes, but beyond that, believe me, its a tiring exercise.
Two Stars. Casting the overrated and useless Nicholas Cage in this ruined all their chances. I can imagine someone like James Franco (best actor in Hollywood right now, right after Leo) pulling this off. In fact, I spent half my time in the seat wondering how wonderful it would be if a certain scene had been given to James Franco instead – now THATS the “Ghost Rider” I want to see.
Watch this if you want to watch an over-the-hill and hideous Nicholas Cage run around in tights like a little girl. If that sort of thing is your bag, grab this immediately. If its not, I suggest writing a letter to the studio protesting the ruin of an otherwise possibly excellent film.

This has to be the worst comic movie ever created. It comes close to being the worst movie ever. I have read the comic and this is nothing like it. It’s as if they took out every interesting idea that made the comic popular. Except of course the flaming skull which looks like some B-grade reject effect from the peice of sh!t film Spawn. Nicolas Cage’s carrer is over if it’s not it should be. He makes fun of the character while playing the character, literally. The story should have been serious, dark ,and voilent. Instead they went with a awful comedy that was geared toward kids. Nicolas cage acted like elvis the whole time and no one had any chemistry. Sam Elliot was the only one that seemed remotly beleivable .Everybody else in the film was some how stripped of any acting talent .Then there was the goth girl …Why seriously why! Hopefully this film gets forgotten and they remake it like they did the batman franchise. Don’t rent , buy or even watch this terrble movie. Its not even good for a laugh. If your a fan of the character save yourself from disapointment and read the comics again.By the way they wouldn’t let me put zero stars or negative stars .
