AS version of Conan is a time masterpiece which fathered the body building revolution; the flexible and ferocious muscular action genre etc. 2011 Conan is pure blasphemy.

Anders, go back and watch the original Conan again… if all you are getting from it is that it was sword fights and sex then you haven’t seen it. It is a tale of self discovery and revenge. What’s the damsal in distress bit? EVERY movie has a impossibly tough ass kicking woman in it. It is soooo cliche and boring to see ass kicking women. This girl was some pampered monk in a pot smoking monestary. How’d she learn to kick ass? At least in the original the girl had a reason o be an ass kicker.

@elbowbiter1 In my defense, I previously saw Conan as a teen, which would explain why sex and swordplay were about all my brain absorbed. It’s only natural!
Also, if the ass-kicking woman is now a cliche in cinema, what does that make the ass-kicking man?

@cutprintreview The ass kicking man is a staple. The asskicking woman that can mop the floor with ass kicking men like a drunk knocking back shots… that’s getting cliche because every other movie since the 90′s has had the impossible heroine in stead of the damsal. Why can’t they just make a woman that kicks ass in a smart way. It’s like they are making up for all the screaming damsals in the first 70years of movies by making a ton of ninja women with super human strength, it’s getting boring.

@elbowbiter1 Whilst I can still think of many modern films with damsels — Clash of the Titans remake, anyone? — I totally agree that the ass-kicking woman needs to be incorporated better. We need more female heroes, particularly with all these boyish superheroes dominating our screens. Movies like SALT and HANNA just aren’t enough.

@SomethingAboutMovies I guess judge movies by how well they achieve what they set out to do. I didn’t like Rise of the Planet of the Apes because I don’t think it was all that convincing or engaging as a fall-of-man fable, what with the generic (and illogical) experiment-gone-wrong plot and moronic humans.
Conan, on the other hand aims to be nothing more than a pulpy popcorn epic, and while the action is fairly rote and characters only skin deep, it ALMOST achieves what it set out to be. Almost

if yopu want to see jason momoa in somthing else before this movie i suggest you watch the science fiction tv show STARGATE ATLANTIS, he did this before he got offered conan.
