The flipper discs work perfectly well to start off so that it being a flipper disc is not a negative, but rather a positive since I can now play the DVD anywhere in my house.

The video quality itself is great, with nice deep colors and none to very little noticeable grain. The sound quality follows the video qualities example. The extras are also very well done, with a very informative commentary being the best feature of them all.

In summary, if you are a fan of the movies and blu ray, you'll love this package, as well with the other 2 flipper disc blu rays. They are not defective and are of a great quality all around.

I was a little hesitant before I made my purchase, but I needn't have been. This Blu-ray/DVD Combo disc works perfectly fine on my SONY BDP-S550. Picture quality is great, as is the audio. I wont go into the details of the disc contents, since others already have done so, but this Combo release from Universal comes highly recommended from me. Complete the trilogy with this essential purchase.

I'll be the first to admit that this review is less to do with these specific Bourne movies and more related to the Blu Ray conversion however I feel that one needs to understand the issues with these discs before addressing the movies themselves. Let me cut to the chase, do NOT buy these discs! They will frustrate and annoy you every time you attempt to watch them, allow me to explain.

I have a Samsung Blu Ray player with updated firmware (don't get me started on that process) connected via HDMI cable to Samsung LCDTV, generally Blu Ray discs work fine on this set up, there are occasions when on other discs the movies will pause for a brief second and then continue however these Bourne movies were impossible to watch. To begin with they seem to feature their own unique controls meaning that trying to scan forward or backward would cause the disc to lock and seemingly stall, never did get the movie to scan properly. Then there were the issues with the movie in general, the picture repeatedly froze, in car chases and in Chapter 11 (and multiple points thereafter) while they are sitting talking in the car, the sound was then out of synch with the picture and more freezing and stalling, it was so bad that I ejected the discs and watched the old DVD versions of the movies. Utterly unacceptable, beyond annoying!

As for the movies themselves, what this experiment did show the dramatic improvement of the Blu Ray versions, the picture was much crisper, the colors richer and more saturated and certainly less noise in the picture, also the sounds was much better, more full and dynamic, too bad that the technology rendered the discs unwatchable.
The irony is that I had "upgraded" from an HDDVD when that format lost out and I had this movie on HD, there were NO problems, same outstanding picture and the player had none of the issues that I attribute to Blu Ray. For whatever reason I believe that Blu Ray is simply not ready yet, too many glitches, I don't want to have to constantly monitor my firmware to watch a movie! That same kind of updating madness is what got me to migrate from a Windows PC to a Mac!

The bottom line is this, the movies are fantastic! Honestly one of my favorite trilogies and WHEN the disc is working the picture and sound really are phenomenal, the problem is in the "when", it is frustrating and unacceptable to deal with these glitches, yes, the movies are being returned to Amazon and a formal letter of complaint is being registered with Universal Home Entertainment. My advice to you, skip these for now or at the very least try to hunt down the regular Blu Ray versions, not these dual discs and save yourself the frustration.

Movie 4.5

Ending this series of novel-based movies (since the next one is supposedly standalone), I felt Ultimatum was easily the best of the three because of two things: its unique continuity presentation and the obvious denouement. Taking place by actually filling in the end gap of Supremacy, you get a very different kind of "recap" of the last movie by having half of this one lead up to the last minutes of the previous one, and then a whole new movie by itself to finish things off. Here, Bourne reaches the end of his quest by going back to his place of origin, learning and remembering everything, while also exacting his revenge on the overpowered and corrupt bureaucracy running Treadstone/Blackbriar. My favorite elements of this movie, however, were the "cat & mouse" chases. I've seen many a good thriller over the years, but it's been a while since I've seen a film pull it off with such elegant intensity. A Hong Kong movie called Infernal Affairs (which was later remade for America in The Departed, for those that don't know) was probably the best of this genre that I've seen to date. But after seeing the Waterloo Station and 4-15-71 scenes, I really gotta' hand it to the screenplay writers for constructing a cleverly-choreographed and well-scripted series of events. My favorite part of the movie is when Bourne calls Vosen (and everything else within that sequence, talk about stickin' it to someone!). "If you were in your office right now we'd be having this discussion face-to-face... (*hangs up phone*)." <-- Classic line right there. In the end, Bourne learns to come full circle with what he has become, then creating a sort of duality of personas. It was a great, great finish to the overarching story.

Video - 5.0

And as the final of the the trilogy, Universal presents The Bourne Ultimatum to us in an aspect ratio of 2.40:1 via VC-1. I was blown away by the quality of Ultimatum. I'd read early reviews of near-flawless transfers for this. But after seeing it myself, I seriously didn't notice a single problem anywhere. Colors, contrast, flesh tones, backgrounds, photography, blacks, sharpness, shadow delineation; they all look perfect and completely undistracting to me. This is reference quality video if you want an action movie relying on little CG or visual effects to show off to your guests. My favorite sequences are the overhead/sky shots of all the exotic cities, in particular Morocco and even some shots of New York City.

Audio - 5.0

This movie won three Oscars for Sound, Design, and Editing, and rightfully so. The audio effects and music all meld together flawlessly having sounds from every single speaker non-stop of even the most subtle variety. You will wow your guests, guaranteed, with any action sequences. Directionality comes from every speaker just as you'd "see" them on the screen. If a car crashes from the left to the right side, you'll actually hear it travel across your front speakers. If a gunshot approaches from the side or rear of the camera, you hear it travel from the sides to the fronts. I don't know how to better explain than saying you literally hear what you see. Dynamics have all sorts of range from shoes running on gravel, horns honking in the distance, glass shattering, bones crunching, etc. LFEs are especially good with lots of variation in bass levels between the music and sound effects. Reference.

Extras - 4.0

While a great, great film in itself, Ultimatum unfortunately has the weakest extras package of the bunch. It still has everything the first two movies had in terms of type, but the interview and making-of features feel much more sparse in terms of content and length. I still really like the U-Control option, but I would've enjoy a little more effort in terms of the other stuff, being this was the best written and produced effort of the trilogy. Again, I say "meh" to the flipper feature. I personally don't see the point in owning both an SD and HD (Blu-ray that is, not HD-DVD) version for any purpose whatsoever.

Overall - 4.5

I was lucky enough have a $20 Rewards Zone coupon when Best Buy first released the Trilogy Box Set at a price tag of $60, meaning I got a great deal of $43 on the set. But for whatever reason that damn thing hardly goes on sale anymore at BB or Amazon. So if you like the movies, don't care for disc art, don't mind flippers, and don't want to wait for a price drop in the Box Set, then this may be a good opportunity to get the movies at a slightly lower price overall. If you haven't read my other reviews on the single releases or Box Set, then I'll say it one more time and highly recommend you give these movies a shot. They're obviously an upgrade over the DVDs, probably over the HD-DVDs (can't say from personal experience, but the math seems to dictate the results for themselves), and I'm sure you'll find some kind of enjoyment from these brilliant and well-crafted entries to the spy/thriller genre.

Simply superb film. It makes you go "whoa, that's ill!".
I think it's beautifully executed. Someone gave me a b-day gift in the form of this film's 2 disc DVD. but i thought it[...] gave it a 93%/100, just 1% less then Casino Royale(which I love). Then I saw it(2 days ago), and was mind boggled. It's nearly perfect with amazing, brutal action and a perfect performance by Matt Damon. I also LOVE the camerawork. It didn't go overkill, either.
10/10

The print is also amazing.
